BA: Design Studies Capstone Project
2020
The NHL Milwaukee Project was created as a capstone to my Bachelor’s Degree in Design Studies from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. This project combines skills learned in my three major areas of study: graphic design, web design, and entrepreneurship, all while tying in my love for Hockey.
I first came up with the idea for this project in my entrepreneurship course, which prompted me to come up with a business idea that I would like to research and develop over the course of the semester. This is reflected in the pitch deck I created, the research into the National Hockey League, as well as the “dream business journal” that I developed through this course.
The graphic design is reflected in the overall branding created for my team. My first choice was coming up with a name for the team that reflected Wisconsin culture, as well as a color palette for this Milwaukee team - basing the colors on the People’s Flag of Milwaukee. Any graphic content created (typography, design elements, imagery) also falls under this category.
Finally, I plan to create a website to drive fan relations with this team. This website will be created through my web design course and will be completed and available to view at the end of the semester at nhlmke.com
My goal from this project is to create interest from people in Milwaukee and Wisconsin as a whole to have our own National Hockey League team. I hope that people look at my work and become as excited as I am at the prospect of building the presence of this sport in Wisconsin, and get engaged in the community to get others to love this sport as much as I do.
